Food sovereignty and safety is equally significant to us. We think consumers should know how and where the food they eat is produced, and who produces it. We believe in directly supporting the production and harvest of local and ethically raised goods, and prioritize sourcing ingredients from Vancouver Island producers.
Hillcrest Farm - Courtenay, BC
Hillcrest Farm's mission is to farm in a sustainable and ethical way while also providing an extremely tasty product. We look at farming as a bottom up process, starting from the ground up. We believe that by looking after our land, maintaining healthy soil and growing good grass, everything else will fall in line. We also believe in mind-blowingly tasty bacon.
Mt Sicker Farm, Chemainus, BC
We raise chickens and sheep on Vancouver Island for our family as well as sales to the local community. Our chickens are grown respectfully in small flocks of 100. This means that they are not cramped in small quarters and get the exercise that they need to be healthy. Their accommodations are bright and airy and conform to BC Poultry Biosecurity Program requirements. We get our feed from a local mill and it is all vegetable and non medicated (ie no hormones or antibiotics).
Tofino Ucluelet Culinary Guild, Tofino, BC
a community food sourcing organization that operates as a social enterprise; bringing high quality, locally grown products to the communities of Tofino and Ucluelet. We are driven to help west coast restaurants, families, and business access healthy food directly from the people who farm, fish and forage the bounty of ingredients available on Vancouver Island. Through group buying and shipping opportunities we make food more affordable for our members, and for small local food producers we create a strong market with established distribution.
Crackling Yolks Farm
Sally Hill's farm is located in Port Alberni where she raises layers & meat birds. She uses organic feed, and all of her birds are cage-free. We've had so many people say these are the best eggs they've ever had!
BKN Ventures, Courtenay, BC
BKN farm is a forested 69 acre establishment in Courtenay BC. We are all about home grown pork and poultry production. Our pigs are fed Top Shelf vegetable feed from Duncan, BC. They are raised without the use of antibiotics, or steroids. “no additives or preservatives!” The pigs have an outdoor pen to forage and a covered pen to escape the weather. Our laying hens are free range, fed layer pellets, and enjoy a custom built cedar hen house full of hay. In 2015 we will be adding a flock of meat birds to our barn, just in time for summer grilling!
